Even if my watch tells me that I've had 8 hours of rest?
You got 8 hours of rest, but your muscles and joints ache, and you walk like the tin man. It takes 15 minutes of movement before you feel normal.
SLEEP POSTURE
If you are a tummy sleeper, your neck is turned all night long, creating neck tension. Also, tummy sleepers tend to bend their leg on the side they turn to, putting stress on the pelvis.
Back or side sleeping is best, but in neutral positions. A pillow to support the neck curvature will help (not too high or low). Side sleeping with knees stacked or a pillow between knees also aids in keeping posture neutral.
MATTRESS SUPPORT
Please don't sleep on a waterbed! They provide terrible support. I know that these are rare dinosaurs from the 1980s but occasionally we hear that patients are still using them.
Mattresses tend to last 7-10 years and are best when they are medium firm. If you see a large body indentation or feel yourself rolling into a divot, it's time for a mattress upgrade. Pocket coils or foam at medium firmness are best
MODIFY
Assess your own sleeping posture. Inspect your pillow and the mattress. If morning stiffness doesn't resolve, it's time to have your spine assessed at Family Chiropractic and Homeopathic Centre. Spinal alignment will help you to have a restful sleep and your morning to feel better.
